Reducing Holiday Travel Stress

Ahead of any trip you have planned for the holiday season, it’s important to take steps to reduce stress. Preparing for your trip and taking steps to take care of yourself and your space before you leave can help lower anxiety about traveling during the busiest time of year. Keep reading to learn tips and tricks so you can have a more seamless experience.

Tip 1: Do Some Prep Work.

Make a packing list. Creating a checklist for last-minute to-do items or things to grab before heading out the door can help you feel prepared and avoid making unnecessary purchases for forgotten items. If you are flying or taking a train to your destination, consider downloading the corresponding app to have easy access on your phone. Review airport security rules if you’re traveling by plane. Set a reminder to check in to your flight ahead of time as well. Do your best to give yourself plenty of time to get where you’re going, whether that be extra time to navigate a slow security line at the airport or time for an extra coffee stop on a long drive. It’s best to have time on your side and stay flexible to reduce travel anxiety. Lastly, don’t forget to strategize how you plan to transport gifts, if applicable.

Tip 2: Take care of yourself.

Stay hydrated. Traveling with a reusable water bottle can help with this. Just remember to wait to fill it until after going through security if you’re flying. Consider bringing immune system support like Airborne to help reduce the risk of getting sick during travel. Prioritize handwashing or using hand sanitizer in high-traffic areas. If you’re flying, you may choose to use a face mask as well to lower the chances of catching a cold or spreading germs if you’re feeling under the weather. You may decide to get a flu shot ahead of your trip too. While airports offer convenient shopping opportunities, the increased price can impact your budget more than expected, making it even more important to pack anticipated items.

Tip 3: Take care of your space.

Before heading out, consider tidying up your space so you come home to less stress. Cleaning out your fridge and taking out the trash could be worthwhile as well. Changing your sheets prior to leaving could be a nice treat for when you get home. In addition, having a few nonperishable staples in your pantry or freezer may be helpful when you return and avoid the need for costly food deliveries. Make sure to water any plants in your space before taking off.

Finally, planning can be an effective tool to reduce stress. Although, it’s still important to remain adaptable when traveling. To make the most of your holiday trip, try to strike a balance between preparation and flexibility. Wishing you safe travels during this busy, festive season!
